dear yuletide writer
Oct. 16th, 2022 07:12 pmhihi, Yuletide writer! I’m halcyonine on ao3, and thank you for sharing my tiny fandoms ❤ I can’t wait to see what you create! Don’t stress too much about the specific prompts – optional details are optional, I’m not much good at prompting, and as long as you leave out the DNWs I’m sure I’ll love it!
General likes:
- angst, slow burn, loyalty, enemies-to-lovers and its subsets (and enemies-to-still-enemies) – any of these will make me a happy halcy!
- missing canon scenes, slight canon-divergence AUs
- imagery and random worldbuilding headcanons (if you have them, please DO insert something about how x plant was discovered in y year or whatever randomly into the narration, I find those delightful!)
- banter! people being friends! or, you know, being ‘friends’
- tenderness or intimacy expressed as physical comfort
NSFW likes:
- dubious consent
- power dynamics and power play, both equal and unequal
- bondage, knifeplay, sensation play, oral
DNWs:
- setting-based AUs (coffeeshop, modern, high school etc)
- catboys
- pregnancy/kidfic, ABO, genderswap
- watersports scat, age play, pet play, vore
onto the fandoms!

characters: Seimei, Yato no Kami, Susanoo
the game near and dear to my heart ❤ you do not have to include all characters in the same fic! and I’d prefer it if you didn’t, I don’t think Susanoo ‘time-travels 1000 years to kill a snake’ would get along very well with Yato ‘would give all the blood and water in the world to a snake’ no Kami. Seimei’s courtyard would be very sad. Prompts:
- Yato no Kami/Seimei: so I’m like, permanently afflicted with the incurable disease known as ‘want to smooch Yato’, and absolutely adored their dynamic in redmoon thrillers. [holds up a sign saying I ship it] I think they would have the most amazing banter and the cleverest flirting, and I’d love to see this in fic! I also think Yato would be the most infuriating lover and I’d love to see that too. nsfw-wise, I think Yato would have great fun letting Seimei do all sorts of things to him. I would also have great fun reading all this.
- Susanoo: my cashcow babygirl who cooks cleans and catches fish I love him so much!! very specifically for him, you can strike out the ‘angst’ from my likes because I do not want him sad at all, I want him to be the happiest person in the world! Give me stories of him and Izanagi uncontrollably roasting each other, or of Susabi leading him around the Heian-Kyo a thousand years after (feel free to play up the Susabi angst angle, by the way, HE isn’t immune to my angst tastes haha), or of him and Kagura having a night-market excursion, or him feeding Ibuki fish – just give him happiness! he deserves it!
Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell – Susanna Clarke
characters: John Childermass, John Uskglass | The Raven King, Catherine of Winchester, Worldbuilding
I have many fond memories of this book and its very many footnotes! you do not have to include all characters in the fic. my favourite character/blorbo here is the Raven King, so I’d appreciate it if he was one of the characters – or, if you’ve gone with worldbuilding, to worldbuild me something about him. Goodness knows the footnotes about him and the history of English magic suggest lore as deep and deceptive as the Mariana Trench. Prompts:
- John Childermass/John Uskglass – loyalty is the big one this pair hits for me, so I’d love some exploration of that. Or some exploration of the Raven King rewarding Childermass for said loyalty, ahem.
nsfw: bondage and sensation play, anyone?King and retainer does lend itself to so many good tropes! But also – what is it like, being the servant of the Raven King, when the Raven King is so long gone, and never gone at all, and magic is also gone and never gone at all from England? - Catherine of Winchester and the Raven King – I am so fascinated by this period of history that we get glimpses of in JSMN! Feel absolutely free to include Thomas of Dundale and William of Lancaster and however many other magicians you need to here. That’s the worldbuilding side, but I’d be just as interested in an exploration of Catherine herself, with the Raven King only ‘present’ in the sense of magic, or in an exploration of any of the relationships that make up the pyramid of Catherine-Thomas-William-the Raven King. (I would also read a paper/essay about them from perspectives such as ‘tired modern-day undergrad who just wants to pass the unit’, just saying)
- Worldbuilding – make it something to do with the Raven King and I'll be happy as a clam! If you’re looking for something particular, I am very curious over how the Raven King gained a kingdom in Hell (and the maintenance of said kingdom, if any)
The Lion Hunters Series – Elizabeth Wein
characters: Medraut, Lleu, Goewin
To start off, I must say that I’ve only read the following in this series: The Winter Prince, the one chapter of the second book included as a preview at the end of The Winter Prince (which helpfully told me that everyone died – at which point I promptly searched for spoilers and was rewarded) and, in a fever dream, the Medraut/Morgause published in an anthology. I say fever dream because I read it once on a dodgy forum filled with Cyrillic ads and have never found it again since.
I’m not really sure what to prompt here – a continuation of the love/hate relationship between Lleu and Medraut? It gets resolved at the end of The Winter Prince, but I’d be interested in knowing what happens after when they hit the first snag, or any small conflict (neither of them being very… good, at straightforward conflict resolution. having asked for this series I don't think it needs to be said, but in any case - fictional incest is fine by me, and if you'd like to go in that direction feel free!). Anything with Lleu and Goewin and Medraut navigating the aftermath? Goewin bringing the horses home by herself, and her mental journey during that, and the aftermath of that?
And if you’d like to do a canon-divergence AU of everyone lives, nobody dies, or mess with the timeline so things don’t implode so fast – please, by all means! This book and these characters really were lovely, and I’ll be delighted with whatever you deliver.
